Thanksgiving in Plymouth
Sunday, 25. November 2007 9:49
This past Thursday, Jennifer and I spent Thanksgiving at a friend’s house in Plymouth, MA. Plymouth is, of course, the home of Plymouth Rock and the site where the Mayflower Pilgrims landed in 1620.
Jennifer and I didn’t really give the historical significance much thought. We just thought of it as going to Patrik and Julie’s house. Besides, have you ever seen Plymouth Rock? It’s somewhere between a large rock and a very small boulder. But the people I work with seemed fairly impressed.
It made me realize that on this thanksgiving, I am thankful for my everyday experiences.
On my commute to work, I am lucky enough to pass by two 135-yearld-old churches, a 95 year old hotel, and the nation’s first public library all sharing the same square with Boston’s tallest skyscraper and most easily recognized part of the Boston skyline.
One Man’s Everyday is Another Man’s Extraordinary Day
Around Boston over the holiday weekend, hordes of tourists descended on the city to shop, sightsee, and check out the city famous for the Boston Tea Party. I have even seen people stop to take pictures of the bronze work at the entrance to the building where I work. The interesting part is that their sightseeing trip that they’ve planned for, saved for, and anticipated for who knows how many weeks is my commute to work.
Our friends Paul and Allison live in Washington D.C and have a view of the the top of the Washington Monument from their living room window.
And of course, many of our friends and family live in the Golden State where everything is great.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
